Caring for Surfing Equipment
Your surfboard is subjected to extreme weather conditions and salt water every time you use it. But with proper care, you can prolong the quality and life of your equipment. This will also help you save on expenses for repairs or having to buy a new board after just a short period of time.
When you are not using it outside the water, keep it inside its bag at all times. This can minimise the possibility of chipping your board and letting dust accumulate on it. At home, find a place where it can be protected from extreme heat to prevent the weakening and yellowing of the layer of fibreglass. You can set up a rack or a shelf to hold your surfboard to prevent it from being knocked down by a strong gust of wind or by an accidental push by a passerby.
If your board gets chipped, have it repaired immediately. Untreated punctures can also cause water to seep into your board, adding weight. With a conscious effort to keep your surfboard in tip top shape, you will be able to enjoy bigger waves.
