Hunting for the Best Waves
Surfers are restless in their search for the perfect wave. This hunt takes them to far corners of the globe, where surf camps boast of the best experiences aboard different types of waves. As a result, surfing destinations have boomed as tourist spots, luring surfers and non-surfers alike. They usually come with fantastic accommodations and lots of facilities, elevating their status to that of five-star resorts. Most of these are located in islands that could aptly be nicknamed “paradise.”

Among the acclaimed surf spots that draw travellers all over the world is the island of Florianopolis in southern Brazil. With forty beaches that stretch over a hundred miles of shoreline, Florianopolis offers exciting rides beneath tubular waves and other kinds of fabulous waves ideal for different surfing techniques. Breaks that can even reach up to 12 feet for advanced surfers can be found in Pico Pequeno and El Estero, while other beaches in Tamarindo have breaks that neophytes can practise on. Surfing ambitions and travel dreams also come true in South Africa, where Jeffrys Bay holds a global reputation for perfect waves that have lured surfers since the 1960s. Rides of up to 800 metres in length are possible at Jeffreys Bay. As the popularity of surfing continues to intensify, so does the pursuit for the perfect wave that has transformed many surfers into seasoned travellers as well.
