Surfing Builds Endurance

Surfing Builds Endurance
It is not just about flat or six pack abs. Toned muscles, a strong back and a great tan are fantastic benefits of surfing, but they are only the signs of the level of fitness that surfers achieve. With so much rigorous activity (imagine going against all those strong, rushing currents!), it is a sure way to increase your endurance. In this sense, it can be considered an intense cardiovascular workout. The process of paddling in itself, of swimming out against the current in order to catch the break, and of swimming back to the shore in order to start again, is much exercise for your upper body and serves as a core workout. When you finally get up on the board, your legs also receive their share of exercise, meaning that you get to exercise your whole body.
However, surfing is not a total, complete workout. At the very least, you can incorporate some yoga or stretching regimens to your routine, be it before or after you go surfing. The sport, like any other, must also be complemented with the right diet. Eat a meal high in protein after you surf in order to help your muscles repair themselves. Give yourself breaks, too, in between surf trips, so that your body can have enough time to recover and recharge, so that you can be physically ready to have fun and try new tricks the next time you go out to sea.
